Sleep Study Health Update
Well, my sleep study did not go as planned. But, does life ever go as planned? So I reported to the ER at 9:30 PM and the sleep technician took me back to the sleep lab. It took an hour and a half for him to hook all the sensors and wires up to me. There were a lot more than my sleep studies I did in 2018, due to now having my implant. There was one larger sensor that was attached to my chest, right on top of my implant. I also had sensors attached to my legs, head, and torso.
Once all of the sensors were finally hooked up, I attempted to fall asleep. I had already taken my sleeping pill ahead of time, since I wasn’t allowed to bring any medications into the hospital. The sleep tech said it took over an hour for me to even fall asleep. He also told me that I never hit REM or a deep sleep, although he didn’t notice any apnea episodes. Fast forward a couple of hours to 3 AM. The sleep tech woke me up because the chest implant sensor wasn’t sensing correctly. So the sleep tech fixed the sensor, or at least attempted. But, unfortunately I wasn’t able to get back to sleep so he ended my study an hour early at 4 AM. The study was a total fail, and I don’t think my doctor will get any usable data as we had hoped. It was a bit strange that I never hit REM, even though I didn’t have an apnea episodes. So, it sounds like my implant is working, but for some reason my brain/body still won’t allow me to hit REM or get any type of deep sleep.
We will see what my doctor says during my follow-up appointment in a few weeks, but I am not hopeful of a positive outcome. I will keep you all updated! Even though my health is still somewhat in the air, I will no longer put my life on hold in hopes of getting it figured out. I am here and ready to enjoy all that life has to offer. xoxo
